Gaming Headlines: 3/10/10

Slow news day, but game announcements, contests and sadness await.  If you find any of these stories interesting, let me know what you think in our comments section

  1. Sony has unveiled their motion controller and it will be called “Move”. It will be sold with or without the PS Eye (for less than $100), have an optional nunchuk style sub controller with a thumb-stick and D-pad and buttons. The Move has an internal rechargable battery like the regular PS3 controller and has no wire between it’s controllers or sub controllers. Since it’s always being tracked by the Eye, the controller doesn’t have the “pointing off screen” issue that Wii users are likely familiar with.  (Kotaku)
  2. PlayStation Move’s Motion Fighter (working title)  looks like a grittier Final Fight or Street Fighter, but with you actually doing the punching. (Destructoid)
  3. Move will have it’s own Wii Sports equivlilent. Sports Champions (working title) will feature table tennis, gladiator duel and more. (Destructoid)
  4. Move Party will be a mini-game compilation that will use the PlayStation Move’s ability to put the gamer in the game and replace the controller visually with in-game objects. (Destructoid)
  5. More than 20 games will be relased for the PlayStation Move before the end of the fiscal year. (Kotaku)
  6. EA has announced that EA Sports Active 2.0 will be coming to the iPhone, iPod, Wii & PS3. The sequel will add a heart rate moniter, online hub and on PS3 new downloadable exercises. (EDGE)
  7. More Sonic 4 info: it has only platformer gameplay, it’s inspired by Sonic 2, Episode 1 will have four acts with three zones each, future episodes will add new skills for Sonic. (NeoGaf)
  8. The well received DS title Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes will be coming to PSN and XBLA via Critter Crunch developer Capybara Games. (IGN)
  9. Cloud gaming service will launch June 17th for PC & Mac and will run gamers $14.95 a month. The first 25,000 people to sign up will get three months free. (Destructoid)
  10. Square-Enix has shipped 5 million copies of Final Fantasy XIII worldwide. (Videogamer)
  11. Street Fighter IV is now available in the iPhone App Store. If anyone buys it, let me know how it is. (Destructoid)
  12. Yggdra Union prequel Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future is coming to the PSP. No US release has yet been announced. (andriasang)
  13. Will Wright (creator of The Sims & Sim City) has stated that he thinks the Wii is a toy and should be more equated with that than with other gaming consoles. I couldn’t disagree with him more and I find it a bit frustrating that game players and creators can’t accept that a console can excel at something unique without having to need a different label than a game machine. (Industry Gamers)
  14. Despite recent success, Rebellion has fired 20 employees and presumably closed their Derby studio. I hope all that lost their job get a new job in the industry as soon as possible. (develop)
