Gaming Headlines: 3/31/10
I got very chatty about today’s news. I think I’m overly excited about all this stuff. I bolded the topics of each news story today, to make them easier to sort through. If you find any of these stories interesting, let me know what you think in our comments section
- Cliff Bleszinki will unveil Epic’s latest game on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Thursday April 8th. Safe bets are on Gears of War 3, but I’ll be excitedly DVRing the announcement either way! (Twitter)
- THQ’s Core Games VP, Danny Bilson has stated that “The next Saints Row is mind-blowing. New tech; mind-blowing. I can’t talk about that too much but it’s mind-blowing”. He also said that the next Red Faction game would have “insane upgrades”. Saints Row is one of my favorite franchises of this generation, so I’m happy that we’ll be getting more info at E3. I also have my fingers crossed that Saints Row 3 will be out this year, as I don’t want to wait until next year. (CVG)
- Miyamoto thinks that 2010 will be great year for the hardcore Nintendo gamer. When explaining this, he referenced Zelda, Mario Galxy 2 and a new Pikmin. I can’t help but agree, but I’d throw Sin & Punishment 2, Monster Hunter Tri and Metroid: Other M onto that list! (CVG)
- IO Interactive’s Karsten Lund said that IO expect Kane & Lynch 2 to get much better reviews than the first game. They’ve added a lot to the game and improved the areas that worked in the first title, so rightfully, IO expects better scores. Despite the backlash from gamers (most of which hadn’t played the game), I really like Kane & Lynch and I can’t wait to try both the single and multiplayer of the sequel. (CVG)
- Crytek has stated that Crysis 2 will have the best graphics of any game ever released. I’d call bulshit on them, if their last game didn’t look so damn nice. (CVG)
- Dead Space 2‘s producer has stated that the demo for Dead Space 2 will be much better then the one for the first Dead Space. Visceral Games aims to have you say “Holy Shit, I’m going out right now, I’ve got to get this!” after you play the Dead Space 2 demo. Judging from the pre-release footage I’ve seen, I think they could easily accomplish this. (G4TV)
- The Grinder was compared to FPS Left 4 Dead when it was announced for the Wii. When it was announced for PS3 & 360 though, it was changed to a top-down view and compared to Hunter: The Reckoning. What does this mean for the Wii version? Nothing! It will remain a FPS, because so much dev time has already been spent on that version. Seems like this cross-platform title could divide players not based on console preference this time, but on game view preference. (IGN)
- UFC boss Dana White has backed off his threats to ban fighters who appear in EA’s MMA game. He will likely still trash talk them and the EA title though. (Kotaku)
- CD Projekt RED has confirmed that they’d still like to release the console version of the Witcher, but right now it is in development freeze. They are planning to release the Witcher 2 on consoles, but even then, can’t guarantee it will happen. Being a small company, they’re beholden to publishers actually doing the right thing. Why would publishers avoid putting a game of the year winning RPG on consoles? Baloney brains, that’s why. (VG247)
- NBA Jam‘s Classic Campaign will end with a Magic vs Bird match. I don’t follow sports and even I know about those players, so this seems like a good move for the classic mode. (MTV)
- Aaron Greenberg from Microsoft has once again reminded 360 gamers to never expect a web browser on the console. Why? Because browsing on the TV is the suxxorz according to him. Their plan is to keep adding applications like Facebook to the 360, so they’re optimized for the console. That’s all well and good, but you can’t add an app for every web page and I’d rather have full access to the internet than selective access, even if some pages aren’t optimized for the console I’m browsing on. (CVG)
- Amazon is selling Bioshock 2 for under 50 bux. That’s a great deal! A better deal though, is that they’re throwing in Bioshock 1 for free. Now you can catch up on this series for cheap! (Amazon)
- A Street Fighter Encyclopedia is being made by Udon. The encylopedia will release later this year, but you can pre-order it now. (Amazon)
- Zeno Clash: Ultimate Edition for XBLA has been pushed back to an April release. I really look forward to trying this weird as hell game. (Eurogamer)
- Twenty-three percent of GameStop’s new game sales come from Nintendo published titles. I’d be curious to see which publisher gets screwed the most from GameStop’s used game sales business. (Gamespot)
- Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions‘ pre-order bonus will be “Cosmic Spider-Man”, who can be played in all dimensions and has unique powers. If you’re a Spider-Man fan, you may want to check the first trailer for Shattered Dimensions at the bottom of this post. (Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions)

I’d love to hear some gameplay details but Xenoblade looks pretty sweet from that trailer!
Yeah, I think it’s the best looking Wii game graphically to date.
